The University of Peradeniya, a prestigious institution in Sri Lanka, is an independent and self-governing body committed to academic excellence, innovation, and cultural enrichment.

The colleges and halls

The University of Peradeniya, founded in 1942, originally started as a campus of the University of Ceylon. Located in the picturesque town of Peradeniya, near Kandy, it was established with the goal of providing higher education in Sri Lanka.

The university's founding marked a significant step towards expanding access to academic opportunities and was a major milestone in the development of the nation's educational infrastructure.

Over the years, the University of Peradeniya achieved numerous milestones that solidified its status as a leading institution of higher learning. In 1952, it became an autonomous university, formally severing its ties from the University of Ceylon. This transformation allowed the university to expand its faculties, offering a wider range of programs and research opportunities. The university became home to many distinguished scholars and has made significant contributions to Sri Lanka's academic and intellectual landscape.
